After more than four years working as a freelancer, I’m going back into the newspaper business.
In mid-April I’ll be starting a brand new role as Sports Audience Editor at the Daily Express, where I’ll be responsible for growing the brand’s online output across all sports.
I’ll still be covering MMA – indeed, MMA is one of the key sports I’ll be looking to grow as part of the ramped-up sports coverage at the Express – but I’ll be writing about a host of other sports, as well.
I’ll still be contributing reports and articles for some of my other outlets, but my new day-to-day role will be with the Express, and I’m super-motivated to get underway and start making a difference.
The new job means I’ve sadly had to bid farewell to my role at MMA Junkie/USA Today Sports, where I’ve been part of the team for the past two years. In truth, I’ve felt part of the team for much longer than that and, while I may be moving on to pastures new, I have a bunch of great friends who I’ll be sure to catch up with when I make my (hopefully) annual pilgrimage to Las Vegas for UFC International Fight Week.
As for the new role, it’s a chance to get back to the sort of coverage I loved producing back in my days at the Daily Mirror. I’ll be working across all sports and major sporting events, including the delayed Tokyo Olympic Games and UEFA European Championships, plus the Ryder Cup, Formula 1, NFL and the 2021 Lions Tour of South Africa.
It’s an exciting time for sport and, with a fresh new role and a truckload of stuff to dive into from Day 1, I can’t wait to get started.
