Six events, 52 fights: Just another crazy MMA weekend

One of the things I love about covering mixed martial arts is the fact that there’s always something remarkable just around the corner.
Whether it’s a big story, a barnburner of a fight, or an out-of-the-cage controversy, MMA rarely fails to deliver something of intrigue or interest in the space of a regular week. In fact, the use of the word “regular” rarely applies in this crazy sport.
This week, the craziness comes from the sheer number of fights on the slate. I’m set to work across no fewer than SIX shows over the space of four days, running live results and recaps of a stack of fights.
It’s quite the schedule:
Thursday, Sept. 24
- Cage Warriors 114, Manchester, England
Friday, Sept. 25
- Cage Warriors 115, Manchester, England
Saturday, Sept. 26
- Cage Warriors 116, Manchester, England
- Bellator Europe 8, Milan, Italy
- UFC 253, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi
Sunday, Sept. 27
- Rizin FF 24
As things stand, that adds up to a total of 52 MMA fights, with a sprinkling of kickboxing bouts thrown into the Rizin show for good measure, though they don’t come under my reporting remit.
In short, I’m going to be a busy boy, and I’ll be glued to the monitors in my office throughout the next few days. It’s going to be a mad few days, but watching fights is what this gig is all about, and I can’t wait to dive in.
