Riski “King Kong” Umar has made a superb start to 2018 and now he’s set to compete in Kuala Lumpur at ONE: VISIONS OF VICTORY.

The 25-year-old Indonesian will face off against Cambodia’s Khon Sichan in a catchweight contest at the Axiata Arena on Friday, 9 March looking to build on the hugely entertaining win he picked up on January against Egi Rotzen at ONE: GLOBAL SUPERHEROES.

And matched against lively striker Sichan, Umar is hopeful for another entertaining performance.

“I know he is good at striking,” he told ONE Championship ahead of the bout.

“He has good knees, kicks, and elbows, but I also hear that his ground game is not good. I think my boxing and ground game is better than his, and I think the good thing for me is I am faster.”

Umar’s win over Rotzen showcased the Indonesian’s dynamic striking, as he used his full array of striking skills to finish the Indonesian boxing champion and claim a first-round TKO stoppage.

“It was a crazy match! I thought that he was going to go easy in Round 1, but then he just came in there and tried to KO me!” he laughed.

“My gameplan was to start with the striking game, and when he gets a little bit tired, then I would take him down and finish him on the ground. I feel like I excited (people) with my performance.”

Now Umar plans on repeating the feat against Sichan who, with a 29-9-3 Kun Khmer record, is sure to come forward looking to strike.

Umar has been training hard for the bout at Bali MMA alongside teammates Gianni Subba and Muhammad Aiman, both of whom will join him on the same card in Kuala Lumpur on 9 March.

The competitive nature of the training has given Umar added confidence ahead of his matchup.

“It helps me because I feel more motivated,” he said.

“Also, both of them have a lot of experience, so it is good for me to learn from them.

“I envision that all three of us will win at ONE: VISIONS OF VICTORY.”
