Longtime rivals Nathan Jones and Alex Lohore will finally throw down at BAMMA London

Welterweight rivalry set to come to a head during Friday night’s world championship clash at the SSE Arena, Wembley

Duelling BAMMA welterweight rivals go head to head in the main event at BAMMA London on Friday night, as Nathan Jones and Alex Lohore do battle for the vacant BAMMA world title.

The two Londoners have had a simmering rivalry for years, and now their paths are set to cross inside the BAMMA cage at the SSE Arena, Wembley this weekend with BAMMA championship gold on the line.

Jones (11-5) has nine submission wins to his name, with ‘Mr Bag and Tag’ winning seven of his last eight contests en route to his shot at the gold.

Lohore (12-1) has been equally impressive, reeling off eight straight victories to position himself as a legitimate contender for the vacant title.

Speaking ahead of the fight, Lohore fired the first shots as he insulted his longtime rival.

“He’s too ugly and boring to be a world champion,” he said.

“Destiny can’t be changed and I will be the world champ. I created this fight, I am the BAMMA welterweight world champion, trust me on that. September 15 I will prove it.”

Jones responded by saying: “It will be my absolute pleasure to silence this fool. His comments and public stunts are not championship material.

“Toes 2 nose Round 1, I will show that he’s bitten off more than he can chew…”

The pair sat down recently for a special head-to-head interview with Andreas Georgiou of MMA Plus, where the rivalry was on show for all to see.

But if you look behind the little verbal pot-shots they threw each other’s way, you’ll find some fighting respect there, too.

Jones vs Lohore is just one of three title fights on BAMMA’s first London show in three and a half years.

Also on the card is a middleweight world title bout between Yannick Bahati and Mike Shipman, while featherweight champion Damien Lapilus puts his belt on the line against Daniel Crawford.

The card also features the second pro MMA bout of reality TV star Aaron Chalmers. The Geordie Shore favourite will take on Alex Thompson.
