Hot on the heels of the official MotoGP pre-season test in Sepang, Malaysia, the two lighter Grand Prix classes took to the track in Valencia, Spain for their first official test ahead of the 2018 season.

Mixed weather conditions at Valencia meant the riders were forced to switch between wet and dry setups as they looked to dial in their machinery ahead of the coming season.

Gresini Honda’s Jorge Martin topped the Moto3 timesheets after the three-day test, with Leopard Honda’s Enea Bastianini just 0.095sec behind him. Italian Marco Bezzechi (PruestelGP KTM) was third fastest, just 0.007 behind the top two.

In Moto2, Italian veteran Mattia Pasini led the way with a lap time of 1:35.779, but the competition wasn’t far behind. Fellow countryman Lorenzo Baldassarri was second-fastest, just 0.016 behind, with Simone Corsi only a further tenth behind.

Kalex machines dominated the top few places on the timesheet, but there was plenty of encouragement for KTM, who saw Miguel Oliveira propel his Red Bull KTM Ajo machine to within two tenths of the top three, while his teammate South Africa’s Brad Binder, was among the Top 10.

The Moto2 and Moto3 stars will now move on to Jerez for the next stop on their testing schedule, with the bikes taking to the track once again on 12 February.
