Gone in 21 seconds: Relive Edward Kelly’s early contender for Knockout of the Year at ONE: GLOBAL SUPERHEROES

Filipino star’s stunning knockout will take some serious beating in 2018’s Knockout of the Year stakes

ONE Championship’s second event of 2018 may already have wrapped up the Knockout of the Year honours.

On a night packed with exciting bouts and finishes aplenty, one man’s knockout stood out from the rest at ONE: GLOBAL SUPERHEROES in Manila as Filipino Edward Kelly produced a jaw-dropping finish in his featherweight bout with Cambodia’s Meas Meul on the preliminary card.

Kelly finished Meul in just 21 seconds, throwing a multi-punch combination and finishing with a head kick.

But rather than the shin-to-chin contact that he’d initially intended, it was Kelly’s knee that made contact, catching Meul as he looked to close the distance. The result was spectacular, as Meul was sent up into the air in horizontal position before spectacularly crashing to the canvas.

It set a new record for the fastest knockout in ONE featherweight history and gave Team Lakay-trained Kelly the 10th win – and fifth knockout – of his MMA career.

It was a truly stunning finish that had the Manila crowd on its feet as Kelly’s KO sent a message to the rest of the MMA world in 2018 – beat that!
