UK amateur stars Abdul Choudhury, Christian Leroy Duncan and Louis Scott Lee picked up victories on Day 1 of the IMMAF-WMMAA Unified World Championships in Manama, Bahrain on Monday.

Ten members of Team UKMMAF were in action on the first day of the week-long tournament, which crowns the best amateur mixed martial artists in the world.

And on a day that saw seven UK athletes defeated, the senior duo of Choudhury and Duncan, plus junior contender Scott, gave the team cause for celebration with a trio of stoppage victories at the Khalifa Sport City Arena.

SBG Manchester’s Choudhury picked up the fastest UK win of the day as he defeated Sweden’s Sebastian Gonzalez by guillotine choke submission in just 63 seconds of his flyweight contest.

And Gloucester middleweight Christian Leroy Duncan also secured a first-round submission finish, with the Range Martial Arts Academy product locking up a rear-naked choke to claim the win at the 2:01 mark.

Undefeated junior featherweight athlete Louis Lee Scott is a veteran of more than 50 Muay Thai contests and is looking to make his mark on the world amateur stage in the junior championships.

And the 18-year-old from Leeds made a dream start to the championships with a TKO finish of Iceland’s Oliver Sveinsson, with the Asylum Vale Tudo-trained prospect securing the stoppage win after 2:59 of the first round of the first bout of the tournament.

Scott returns to action on Tuesday against New Zealand’s Levi Hawkes in the fourth bout of the day in Cage 1, while Choudhury faces off against Bulgaria’s Oktay Arif in Cage 2. They will be joined by fellow UKMMAF teammates Jackie Harper, Charlotte Brown, Muhammad Mokaev and Amy O’Mara, who will be making their first appearances in the tournament.

Set and ready for the opening day of competition here at the IMMAF-WMMAA Unified World Championships. #MMAWorlds2018
