Bibiano Fernandes says history will repeat itself when he faces Kevin Belingon in ONE world title rematch

Bibiano Fernandes will look to complete an eighth straight world title defence at ONE: HEART OF THE LION in Singapore

ONE Championship

Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes says Kevin Belingon will be a totally different fighter when they meet in a world title rematch at ONE: HEART OF THE LION, but says the result will be the same.

The Brazilian is one of the pound-for-pound kings of ONE Championship, and is looking to extend his remarkable reign as ONE Bantamweight World Champion by turning back the challenge of ONE Interim Bantamweight Champion, Filipino star Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon.

Fernandes captured the ONE Bantamweight World Title back in October 2013 and hasn’t tasted defeat since.

“The Flash” has defended his titles on seven straight occasions, defeating Belingon via first-round Kimura submission in his fourth title defence in January 2016.

Filipino star Belingon hasn’t lost since that defeat to Fernandes and will arrive at the rematch riding a six-fight win streak and carrying the ONE Interim Bantamweight Title after outpointing featherweight champ Martin Nguyen for the interim belt in July.

Fernandes acknowledges Belingon’s development as a martial artist, but says he will still have the edge when they meet again in the Singapore Indoor Stadium on November 9.

“Kevin Belingon has improved immensely,” he admitted.

“I have seen him grow as a competitor over the past few years. I know that in our rematch, Kevin will be a completely different fighter.

“Nevertheless, I am very confident that my skills are enough to beat him again. Yes, he is dangerous, but I will control the pace of this fight and the outcome.

“I am not taking Kevin Belingon for granted, and I am training harder than ever to make sure that I triumph over his best version yet in Singapore.”

Fernandes is the most dominant bantamweight champion in world MMA, with his nearly 10-year, 14-fight win streak cementing him as one of ONE Championship’s premier athletes.

And the 38-year-old says he has no intention of letting his title go any time soon.

“I have held this world title for a long time, and I’m not about to give it up now,” he stated.

“I am ready to go the full five rounds, but I am also ready to finish the bout by knockout or submission when the opportunity presents itself.

“I look forward to putting on a show on 9 November.”

Fernandes takes on Belingon in the co-main event of ONE: HEART OF THE LION at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Friday November 9. The event is available to watch live and for free via the ONE Championship Super App.
